A little
history...
Marvin Sharp began his
coaching career in Oregon in the late
1980's. He
credits much of his success to early coaching influences such as Dick
and Linda Mulvihill, Bob Levesque, and Stormy Eaton. The
opportunity to work with these individuals taught me more than I could
have ever learned on my own. I was thrust into the National
Gymnastics scene back in the 80's as the Junior Elite Head Coach for
the National Academy of Artistic Gymnastics in Eugene, Oregon. I
had to learn quickly, and spent most of my free time watching videos,
attending clinics, and visiting other programs.
Since that time I
have attended (and given) quite a few clinics, I still visit other
programs when I get the chance and even watch a video or two. I
don't believe you can ever stop learning, the sport is constantly
growing and we as coaches need to grow with it.
Marvin Sharp opened Sharp's
Gymnastics Academy in August of
2001 (see "our story"
for
more information).
In a relatively short time Coach Sharp has established Sharp's
Gymnastics
in the International Elite community. Not too many clubs in the
USA
can make that claim.

Quotes from
Coach Sharp...
"I believe
in a cooperative style of coaching. I think all my
athletes should have a good understanding about how and why we train,
and
I ask only that they give as much to their practice as do I... 100%."
"I credit my
back ground in psychology for much of our
success. Compared to most clubs we have very few fear related
problems and balking issues."
"I want SGA
to be a positive place to workout, while
offering
the highest level of gymnastics training available. I believe in
a
preventative style of training. We use rehabilitation and
training
exercises to help prevent injuries. We also spend time
emphasizing
good nutritional habits. I know our athletes are some of the most
physically
fit in the USA."
"We
want to make stronger athletes, as well as stronger
individuals, both mentally and physically."
Marvin Sharp
is also a Nationally published photographer. His photos have
appeared in numerous magazines, newspapers, text books, & the world
wide web. (See Photo Page)
